10 year anniversary reflections

The permanent closing of the Main Street Bakery cafe in downtown Aspen in mid October signified a poignant moment for us. It was there on a snowy morning exactly 10 years ago that Mary and I went for breakfast and met the owner Bill. It was the morning after we had presented ourselves to the Aspen Skiing Co ( Skico ) at their annual job fair at Bumps restauraunt at Buttermilk and been given jobs in the Guest Services division at Snowmass to start a month later. Elated at our success, the Aspen Daily News had captured our mood in a picture and article that appeared the following morning. Bill had shown an interest as we sat reading this article over breakfast. We even discussed an alternate plan of his taking me on as a baker in his cafe! That didn't happen, but we've had countless brilliant breakfasts there since that morning the last and final one being a few weeks ago.

This event has caused me to reflect a little on these past 10 years and I'm proposing now to write a paragraph or two each day ( or week depending on how inspired I am ! ) to add to this post highlighting events, activities, special moments summarising these reflections. These will be very much for my record and are likely to be far too dry, not to say boring, for any loyal readers. They'll feature not just our time in Aspen/Snowmass, but many of the things that have so entertained us throughout each year since Oct 2006 and the planning and practical considerations which preceded this adventure and perhaps our plans for the next 10 years.
